Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you have used the self-cleaning litter boxes, or know anyone who has, and what are your thoughts on them? I'd really like to get one for my cats, and I found one made by Littermaid that sounded really good, but they don't seem to be getting very good reviews at all. Apparently, the motors burn out rather quickly, and a lot of people feel that they are a waste of money, considering how much they are, and how shortly they last. I don't know much about any of the other self-cleaning boxes, so if any of you do, please leave your comments. Thanks.

We had a litter mate...Or however that name goes, and my cats refused to use it because it got to the point where the motor would start up as soon or shortly after they put pressure on the box...And this simply don't work when (1) The motor starting scares the cat out of what few whits he/she may have...and, (2) The damn thing is trying to scoop while your cat is trying to go...My advice would have to be, don't bother. I know scooping takes longer then letting it be done for you, but it's worth it; IMO.

Hi, LeAnn. I've never had a self-cleaning litter box, mostly because of the expense. But several friends of mine have, and were not impressed either. They had the same problem of the box not lasting very long, as well as scaring the cat like cattleya described. the friends who have used them say they could have spent their money more wisely. Scooping isn't the most pleasant chore, but I guess I'd rather save my dollars and do it myself. *Smile*

Hi, Kodiak. Yes, self-cleaning litter boxes. They have a motor, and a scoop built into them. They have electronic sensors that tell it when the cat is in the box. Then, about 30 seconds after the cat is out of the box, the motor kicks in, the the scoop makes a sweep across the bottom of the box, and deposits it's findings into an attached storage thing. They're a cool idea, but not as great in practicality.
